Life Skills Research Published

Developing daily living skills such as self-care, cooking and managing money, is a key priority for adolescents with special educational needs, including Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

Led by Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist Debbie Burridge, the Moor House Research & Training Institute (MHRTI) are delighted to have had their first paper on life skills in adolescents with and without DLD published.

Research data was collected using the WHEEL OF INDEPENDENCE™ framework, a life skills measurement tool developed at Moor House, with findings highlighting the challenges adolescents with DLD experience in developing their daily living skills compared to those without DLD. The study also identifies the need for further research to inform understanding of the underlying cause of these differences.
