Avril Koppel, who planted the first tree to begin a transformation of the space in June, returned alongside Della Skeates and Geoff Lewis to cut the ribbon on the new area, which includes raised planting beds, a sensory path, sandpit and play area for our school children to experience and enjoy.

The project was made possible thanks to an overwhelming response to our Christmas campaign last year including generous donations from The Charles Lewis Foundation, Joseph Levy Foundation, School Food Matters and many other individuals.

Deputy Head Teacher Stephanie Williams, who led the project, said: “Our approach at Moor House is to empower our children, who all have language disorders, to reach their potential and develop communication skills, friendships and self-belief.

“The new sensory garden and play area will help stimulate the children’s senses and offers a learning environment which is essential to their development.

“The transformation of a grey, concrete space into a beautiful, inspiring sensory garden and play area has been incredible and we are hugely grateful to the The Charles Lewis Foundation, Joseph Levy Foundation, School Food Matters and everyone who responded to our appeal who made it possible.”

Della Skeates, Trustee at The Charles Lewis Foundation, said "Much like every other time I have visited Moor House, the opening of the new playground and sensory garden left me smiling from ear to ear.

"The positive and happy atmosphere surrounding the students and staff at Moor House is incredible. We feel truly honoured to have been part of a project that we have no doubt will provide joy, fun and laughter and new opportunities to all for many years to come.
