Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a hidden but common disability that affects 1 in 14 people, causing difficulties understanding and using language for no known reason. Based in Hurst Green, Oxted, Moor House is one of very few schools in the country specialising in supporting children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

The theme this year is ‘Growing with DLD’, highlighting that DLD is a lifelong condition but that with support, people with it can thrive.

Raising Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (RADLD), the lead organization who coordinates international #DLDday, are advocating for increased recognition and support for people with DLD across their lifespan. 

Sue Marr, Specialist Teacher (DLD) and Trainer at the Moor House Research & Training Institute said: “At Moor House we’re proud to provide an environment that supports our students to grow with DLD and passionate about raising awareness.

“Our specialist setting proves that with the right support, children and young people with DLD can achieve their learning potential.”

To boost awareness of DLD globally more than 80 landmarks are scheduled to light up purple and yellow on or around Friday 14 October 2022, whilst students at Moor House will take part in a range of activities throughout the week to raise awareness.
